Airframe Rental
With the advent of digital cameras came an era of longer and more successive takes. This has resulted in a potential impact on the safety for boom operators or first assistant sound persons. Many veteran boom operators have experienced a shoulder, neck or back injury during their career with some resulting in painful surgeries to restore use of their upper extremities. In the last couple of years a lot of progress has been made in creating tools for people that work with their arms over their heads and bearing weight down onto their necks and shoulders. This technology has been introduced to film professionals to reduce the risk of injury.
The Airframe and Airframe Flex developed by Levitate Technologies is a low profile exoskeleton that shifts the weight on the arms from the shoulders, neck and upper back to the core of the body much like you'd experience in a properly fitted backpacking backpack. The frame consists of the main frame, cassettes and arm rests. The cassettes determine the amount of lift for each arm and are independent from each other.

Each exoskeleton is adjustable so it can be fit to an individual person for maximum benefit. At the beginning of each rental, the boom operator will visit with a tech at the shop to have the device adjusted to their body and to choose the desired cassette setting. The operator will also learn how to make basic adjustments and to care for the exoskeleton for the duration of the rental.
When the need arises for an Airframe exoskeleton on set, production or individuals can setup an account to rent the frame on a short or long term basis. Please reach out for a quote for your production.
